Installation

With Cargo

You need Rust 1.95 or newer.

cargo install --locked --git https://github.com/HilthonTT/strata strata

On Linux and macOS, SFTP support also needs the OpenSSL headers (libssl-dev on Debian and Ubuntu, openssl-devel on Fedora, openssl from Homebrew on macOS).

From source

git clone https://github.com/HilthonTT/strata
cd strata
make install # builds a release binary into ~/.local/bin, and the man page

Run make help to see the other tasks (make check runs everything CI runs).

Man page

make install puts the man page in ~/.local/share/man/man1/. Otherwise strata prints it: strata --man > ~/.local/share/man/man1/strata.1, then man strata. It lists every option, key, palette command, file and environment variable.

Prebuilt binaries

Every tagged release has binaries for Linux (x86_64 and ARM64), macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows on the releases page, with SHA-256 checksums.

Package managers (coming soon)

These arrive with the first tagged release; they are not published yet.

pdftoppm (poppler-utils), ffmpegPDF and video previews.
udisks2 (Linux)Mounting and ejecting removable drives.
zoxideOptional: the zoxide plugin feeds your shell's zoxide. strata's own g j / :z jump list needs nothing.

A terminal with kitty, sixel or iTerm2 graphicsFull-resolution image previews.
