Signing in
The console talks to one server, named by --server or $PHANTOM_SERVER, and http://localhost:8008 otherwise. A bare host:port is taken as plain HTTP.
Connecting
The console asks the server who it is every ten seconds, without signing in: its name, version, the Matrix versions it speaks and whether it federates. The Connection box in the footer shows the result — connected with latency, or unreachable with the error.
The sign-in form
The first time a server answers and no session is saved, a sign-in form opens. Give a user (ada or @ada:phantom.test) and a password; tab moves between them. A refused sign-in shows the server's reason. Dismiss the form with esc and open it again with :login.
The console signs in as a device named phantom console, so you can find and sign it out from another client.
Admins and everyone else
Any account can use the console to chat. To see the server's sections, the account must be an admin — a member of the #admins room. The footer says who you are: @ada:phantom.test · admin, or · not an admin.
A regular user sees the server sections with sample data, labelled as such in each table's footer.
Sessions
The session is saved per server in phantom/sessions.json under your config directory (~/.config on Linux), readable only by you. Next time the console checks it and carries on; a session the server no longer accepts is forgotten and the form reopens.
:logout signs out on the server and forgets the session.
